Pin Show 2016: Cape Edition

I am lucky enough to go to some amazing events, with some fabulous people and swim in a sea of fashion and faux-fancy. The Pin Show is not only one of THE biggest fashion shows in Dallas every year, but it is my personal favorite. The location, the guests, the talent: the energy is contagious. This is also one of the occasions where it is implied that you will go all out with your style choices. THIS IS YOUR CHANCE PEOPLE. So I hunt, and shop, and scourer the internet all year in search of the perfect statement. Because let's be real: I am the tallest women in any given room and will be seen and commented on regardless (much to the annoyance of my friends who fondly express how they "can't take me anywhere") so there is even more added self-pressure to be fab.

Now, confession time: I stole this cape after seeing it on one of my fave bloggers, Gabifresh. I saw it, I stalked it, I lusted after it...and then it went on sale and I took it as a sign from the heavens giving me permission to be a fashion copy cat. AND IT SO FABULOUS I DONT EVEN CARE. This was my first order from Simply Be and I could honestly have not been more pleased. First of all, the shipping was super fast, which is a big deal for the impatient online shopping addicts like myself, and it came packaged so nicely that I didn't even have to steam it before wearing! The quality was also much better than I was expecting, and the fit was perfection. And I knew right away that this cape deserved a spotlight.

Obviously the cape is the star of this look, so I kept the rest simple and paired this beauty with my new favorite over-the-knee boots...yes, I actually found boots that go all the way up my giant legs. To complete the look I wanted to edge it up a bit with some ear cuffs and attempted the new braid-mohawk trend, which I totally loved as a fancier braided option.

Hello, It's Me...

Miss Me?

Well don't. Because I'll always end up back here. We'll talk about that later.

It is often a real effort to make myself be cute in the cold. Which is stupid, because I loooove winter fashion. Bury me in oversized coats and fur and leave me in peace. The problem however is, that stretchy pants and large sweaters with comical animals on them are just so appealing.

Remember when turtlenecks were things your mother wore in the 90's under primary color-blocked sweaters? Yeahhhh, they're back, better than ever, and (I hope) here to stay. Paired with my absolute favorite ASOS jeans (seriously guys, if you don't own a pair you are doing yourself a disservice) that are as soft as any sweatpants, and this amazing trench vest, there is just something so put together about this look. It says, "I'm chic and classy and probably very busy doing important and fabulous things and I didn't spend all evening putting together this outfit, ha! I just threw it on after my morning coffee before leaving the house in a timely and put-together manner".... #goals.
